A Retro-Styled Dream at Poplar Creek Barn

I met Shaena, the incredible photographer behind this shoot, at a vintage market about a year ago. I have to admit — I was a little jealous that she ended up winning the giveaway that evening… a vintage orange Preway retro fireplace wood burner! If you don’t know what that is, look it up — you’ll recognize it instantly, and probably want one, too.

While I may have left empty-handed that night, I did get to connect with the wonderfully artistic soul that is Shaena. So when she reached back out to ask if I’d be part of this retro-styled shoot, I just knew it was going to be something special.

And wow, was it ever.

This styled shoot was one of those magical days where everything just clicked — the light was golden, the vibe was joyful, and the creative team came together to make something really beautiful. If you love retro wedding inspo with a fun twist (and a vintage VW photo bus, of course!), I think you're going to love this one.

We set up at the gorgeous Poplar Creek Barn — a venue that feels both rustic and romantic — and filled the space with bright florals, vintage touches, and playful energy. It was all about bringing a retro vision to life in a way that felt fresh, joyful, and super fun. And the best part? A friendly little chicken we named Nugget who decided to hang out with us all day.

The Details We Loved

Photography: Shaena Ragne Photography captured every little moment in such a beautiful, natural way. Her eye for details and amazing ability to direct the crew is amazing.

Videography: Panorama Studio was there to catch the motion and emotion — their work adds such a cinematic layer to the whole shoot.

The Bus (hi, that’s us!): The Old Fashioned Photo Bus brought the photo fun! This little VW cutie is always a hit — she’s vintage on the outside, photo booth magic on the inside.

Florals: North Road Flower Farm  absolutely nailed it with light pinks and white wildflower blooms that brought so much life and color.

Cake: The Cake Ladyy made a vintage styled cake that was just as pretty as it was delicious — fun, colorful, and totally on theme.

Makeup & Hair: Jillian Dawson (Make Up) and Reformed Beauty LLC (Hair) gave our model bride a timeless look with a fun retro twist. Think soft waves, dewy skin, and a pop of rhinestones.

Dress:  Tiffani's Bridal provided the dreamiest bridal gown — it flowed beautifully and added just the right amount of vintage charm.

Our Models: Huge shoutout to Derek & Maria @rosenthal.derek + @dudacanciio — they brought the sweetest energy and looked like they walked straight out of a retro romance movie.

Why We’re So Into Retro Right Now

There’s something about a retro-styled wedding that just brings joy. It’s playful. It’s nostalgic. And it’s full of personality. Throw in a vintage VW photo bus, and you’ve got not just a photo booth — but an experience your guests will never forget.

So if you’re dreaming up a wedding day that feels like you — with a little throwback style and a lot of heart — this shoot is your sign to go for it.

Huge thanks to every vendor who helped bring this vision to life. I feel lucky to be part of such a creative community, and I can’t wait to see more couples embrace the retro love!
